HERITAGE SQUARE
There are three museums in downtown Oakland: the Garrett County Historical Society Museum, Garrett County Transportation Museum and the Oakland B&O Museum.
The Garrett County Historical Society Museum was established in 1969 and relocated in 1997. It is made up of eight themed rooms that take visitors from the time period of living in the wilderness into a time of commerce and growth. The Transportation Museum was completed in 2011 on Liberty Street in downtown Oakland. It is a two-story building consisting of full sized antique modes of transportation and the largest display of Buddy L Model T Fords in Western Maryland The second floor displays boats, the first snow mobile in Garrett County and it exhibits the history of nearby Maryland State Parks. B&O RAILROAD MUSEUM IN BALTIMORE
The B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore continues to lend their support. The provide us with items from their gift shop, displays from their Graphic Arts Department, educational DVD's and exhibits. In addition, we receive on going expertise and advice from their staff.
