We do invite all types of groups and organizations to tour our facility. There is no fee for this service, but donations are appreciated. There is something in our museum for everyone, young and old alike. We also have a classroom that is primarily used all types of educational purposes. RECENT VISITORS:
America by Rail tour bus:
Sixty-six people arrived by tour bus to visit the Oakland B&O Museum and the Transportation Museum of Garrett County. They left Chicago by Amtrak, bound for the Greenbrier Resort. From there, they traveled by bus through West Virginia to the Cass Railroad, to the Western Maryland Station in Elkins to ride the Tygart Salamander. They then motored to Oakland to visit both museums, continued to Penn Alps, and then to Cumberland to ride the Mountain Thunder.
Mountain View Christian Academy:
Fifty-five students from the Mountain View Christian Academy, Springs, PA, visited the museum for a program of local and regional history early in November. Volunteers Gretchen and Bob Shaffer and Morgan France led the tour.
Northern High School:
Jan Virts' history class of 29 students toured the Museum on November 13. Volunteers Ralph and Kathy Biltz and Carl and Sue Gray provided the tour.
Department of Natural Resources personnel:
Twelve members of the local contingent of DNR personnel toured the Museum on the same day later in the afternoon, led by volunteers Jim Sisler and Elsie Lewis.
Garrett County Board of Education administrators:
Twenty-five personnel from the Board of Education visited the Museum in November to investigate the potential for various public school history classes at different levels to enrich their curricula at the appropriate point in their studies. Their docents were former teachers Mary Jane Fike and Sue Gray.
Local Students:
This winter we will host eight classes of pre-K children and 15 kindergarten classes.
