We are sad to announce the passing of dedicated and wonderful volunteer, Elsie Lewis, lovingly refered to as queen Elsie. She will be sorely missed.
Elsie Marie Lewis, 80, of Oakland, MD, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Garrett Regional Medical Center, Oakland.
Born August 2, 1943, in Accident, MD, was the daughter of the late Robert Alvin and Mary Virginia (Brobst) Ash, Sr. She was also preceded in death by one son, Sean Lewis. Elsie was an active member in her community. She was a member of the Pine Grove Church, volunteered at the B&O Train Station with her grandson, Robbie. She had a gift for crocheting, winning multiple ribbons at the county fair. Elsie loved crossword puzzles, baking and history.
She is survived by her children, Norma (Charles) Lewis, Oakland; Norman (Patty) Lewis, Sheldon, IL; Robert Lewis, Davenport, IA; loving sister to her siblings, Carrie Sines, Leota Gardner, Roberta Baker, Robert "Bobby" Ash, Jr., Joseph Ash, JoEllen (Charles) Smith and James (Susan) Ash; loving grandmother to seven grandchildren, Jason Lewis, Rose (Rich) Jakobitz, Tanya (Robert) Eilts, Brittany (Baltazar) Sixtos, Stephanie (Bobby) Makungu, Robert Lewis and Maria Lewis; and her legacy also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Pine Grove Church, 5785 Bray School Rd., Oakland, MD 21550, on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow in the church at 1 :00 p.m. with Pastor Brian Coffman officiating. Interment will be in the Marshall Friends Cemetery.

What do Our Volunteers Do?
We have lots of different volunteer opportunities, such as: selling items at our store, welcoming visitors, providing tours of the museum, overseeing the library visitors, photographing our inventory, helping with displays, organizing events, fundraising, researching our artifacts, helping with marketing and social media, and so much more! There is truly something for everyone.
